Tumbler

One of my favorite writers is H. P. Lovecraft. Most people don’t know who this is, even though he was a major influence for a lot of modern horror writers. There are web sites and games dedicated to him and his works, some of which have various memorabilia for sale such as cups and t-shirts. I have often looked at these sites and thought about buying something but because they are in the US and shipping is expensive, I’ve chosen not to indulge.

Starbucks sells a tumbler which one can personalize with pictures and such. A few years ago I made one for Susan with pictures of our family. We have also made them for other family members as well. It is a great idea and is a fine way to show off pictures. Then I got thinking that it could be used for something else besides photos and I started designing my own insert based on H. P. Lovecraft and his stories. This is what I came up with:

I included a couple of quotes from his stories, some crests from the fictional University which he used in his stories, a drawing of him, his signature, and some symbols from the Necronomicon which is a fictional book that he created and has since been made into an actual volume. Now I have a tribute to Lovecraft that no one else has and I can use it every day.
