Landmark

Today is a landmark for me so I thought that I'd share it with everyone. I've finished the first draft of my novel! That is quite an accomplishment if I do say so myself and something that I wondered if I'd ever say I'd done. But now it is done and I can go on and start on the second draft. No one will read this first draft but me, because in the words of Ernest Hemingway: "The first draft of anything is shit."
I am very happy with myself. Now the real work begins.

Signs of Spring

I finally got out to my garden today to get all the Fall leaves out of it (and a couple of pumpkin remains). It was quite a job but I managed to get the bulk of it cleaned up. I took a few pictures so that I can show off my newly sprouted tulips and daffodils. I can't wait until they are all blooming. I'll be sure to take more pictures as they start to flower. This is the first time that I've planted bulbs in the fall and it is so rewarding to see them come up after the Winter, if you can call the season we are just finishing up Winter. I'm glad that the deer didn't get to them.

This is a picture of my iris plant which is starting to come to life. It was hard to get all of the oak leaves out from between the plants but I didn't end up hurting it.

I'll have to start planning what I'm going to do with the rest of the garden now.

Huge Upset!!!

Well, that was disappointing. The New York Giants came up with a huge upset and won the SuperBowl. The defences on both sides played a great game keeping the score low until the forth quarter but in the end Eli and the Giants pulled it off with a last minute touch down. It was a very hard game to watch. Brady got knocked down so many times and couldn't seem to get anything done. Welker and Maroney both played a great game for the Pats but it wasn't enough. A sad end to what could have been a perfect season. Now they will have to re-group and try harder next year. My opinion is that the Patriots were struck with "perfection pressure". They had a perfect season, winning every game but when the playoffs came, they couldn't keep it together. The last two games they played to win the AFC Championship were very close and they just weren't playing like they were in the regular season, especially at the beginning of the season. So not only did they have the pressure of the Super Bowl on their shoulders, but also the pressure of making history. I think that it would have been better for them if they had lost a couple of games in the regular season to keep their heads on straight.

Good news for the Giants though. They were the underdogs and they pulled it off. Great for Eli Manning who always seems to be under the shadow of his older brother Peyton. Now maybe the media will compare how much better Eli is to Peyton because he won the World Championship so much earlier in his career. It really is quite anoying when watching a Giants game because every time the announcers talk about Eli, they have to mention Peyton.

Now it's almost Spring time and I'll have to start writing about my garden again. I've noticed that my tulips are starting to sprout.

Super Bowl

It's Superbowl Sunday, finally. It seemed to take forever to arrive but now it's here. This year we got the NFL Network so that we can keep up with all of the teams, games and players. It has been a real learning experience. Our house team is the Patriots so we are all very excited at their perfect season so far and will be cheering them on in the final game. It is so exciting. If they win today, they will go down in history with the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only other team to have a perfect season, winning all of their regular season games plus the Superbowl. Every day we watch the NFL Network to get updates and predictions; interviews with the players and coaches. It would be so cool to actually be there for the game. There is so much going on, a whole week of festivities. One day maybe. For now we will just enjoy it at home.

GO PATRIOTS!!!
