Happy New Year!

Happy New Year. It has been a fun filled holiday but very busy.

On the 20th of December, Laura and I went out finally to get a Christmas tree. There were about ten trees left and we got a $45 tree for $15, but it is beautiful -- healthy and full. When we got it home I discovered that the base of the tree was too thick for our tree stand; so there I was, out on the balcony, whittling away at the base of our tree with a hatchet until it was thin enough to fit in the base.

Because we were so busy, shopping and all, the tree stayed undecorated until the 23rd. We had a great time decorating it though. It sure beats the five foot artificial tree we used to have. We had to stop using that one because every year the kids would ask if the tree was getting smaller.

Christmas Eve, Laura set out cookies and milk for Santa before she went to bed, with a sweet little card for him.

After the kids went to bed, Susan and I spent most of the night wrapping presents. (Do you think there is a planning tip here somewhere?) It's tradition for us now, and we do have a good time getting everything ready.

Christmas morning was fun. We opened our stockings and then our presents. Stockings are so much fun at Christmas time, it's my favourite part. After that, we cleaned up and got our turkey dinner started. We popped over to Susan's parents house for a little while, to say Merry Christmas and then it was back home to cook and eat, relaxing by the fire log channel, playing with our toys. It was so nice to have a relaxing Christmas Day.

Dinner was delicious, as always. Susan is such a good cook. We ate at the table, visited and had a great time.

Boxing day, Mom and Dad came down to have dinner with us; we cooked a ham this time and had turkey leftovers from the night before. It's funny how much better food tastes the next day. We polished most of the food off and had just enough to make turkey soup. I ate so much in those two days, I thought I'd burst.

New Years Eve was pretty relaxed. We got a couple movies to watch and made a roast beef dinner. We barely made it to midnight before going to sleep. We've never been much for New Years parties.

That is our holiday in a nut shell. Not very exciting but very peaceful. A wonderful family time.
